In this session, we focus on learning and practicing the whole note, double whole note, and dotted notes on the handpan. Understanding these note values is essential for rhythmic accuracy, hand coordination, and building a strong foundation in handpan performance
Each quarter note we studied in the first term consists of eight thirty-second notes. In other words, one thirty-second note equals one-eighth of a quarter note, one-fourth of a half note, and one-half of a sixteenth note. Memorizing these ratios is crucial for mastering note durations and maintaining a steady rhythm
The whole note carries the highest time value, as each whole note equals four quarter notes. The half note has the second-highest duration, equivalent to two quarter notes. In essence, one whole note equals four quarter notes, and one half note equals two quarter notes
Pay careful attention to the counting, timing, and fingering techniques as you practice these notes. Proper execution requires integrating previous sessions’ exercises, ensuring smooth transitions between notes, and reinforcing correct hand placement and movement
Consistent practice of these note values not only improves your handpan rhythm reading and musical timing but also prepares you for more advanced pieces and rhythmic patterns in future sessions. Remember, mastering these exercises depends on the foundation built through earlier lessons, so make sure all previous practice routines are well integrated
