Backing tracks for this session
In this exercise, as well as in the following lessons, developing full control over rhythmic patterns and the ability to create melodic lines on rhythmic accents is highly important. This process is not only a key technical skill but also one of the fundamental methods of composition on the handpan (hang drum). By returning to the given patterns and carefully reviewing the flow of rhythm and melody, you can deepen your understanding of how these two elements interact
As you progress, try to approach each lesson and each practice session with this perspective: rhythm provides the foundation, while melody shapes the emotional journey. Practicing with this mindset will help you strengthen your handpan improvisation skills, enhance your sense of timing and musical expression, and gradually introduce you to the art of handpan songwriting and composition
Consistent practice on these exercises can transform your playing, allowing you to move from simple repetition to creative expression. This method is also an excellent way to prepare for performing, recording, or even composing your own unique pieces on the handpan
