Lesson 34: Performing Piece 3 – Reversals and Handpan Playing

Lesson description and learning notes

Up to this point, we have explored many fundamental handpan (hang drum) techniques, from holding the instrument correctly to reading and performing various note values

In this session, we focus on taking your handpan playing to the next level by learning how to rotate the instrument and place the lowest note toward yourself. By experimenting with note placement and movement across the handpan, you will break through previous limitations and unlock new melodic possibilities

This exercise encourages creative handpan performance, improves coordination and hand independence, and enhances your ability to improvise melodies. By integrating these techniques into your practice, you can develop a more expressive, dynamic, and versatile approach to the instrument, fully enjoying the immersive experience of handpan music
