In this lesson, we focus on learning and performing double notes on the handpan, along with understanding their exclusive notation. The double note technique is essential for creating richer textures and more dynamic rhythms in your handpan playing
Whenever two simultaneous strikes—one from the right hand and one from the left—are played together, the notation is represented by a cross (×) placed above the two notes. Practicing this notation helps you achieve precise timing, hand coordination, and a fuller sound
This rhythmic pattern is the third in our series of handpan rhythm exercises. After practicing and mastering this pattern, you should seamlessly combine it with the two previous patterns, creating continuous, flowing rhythms. For advanced skill development, also practice these patterns in alternating hand sequences to improve ambidexterity and hand independence
Regular practice of double notes enhances your technical control, musical expression, and dynamic range on the handpan. By incorporating this technique into your daily exercises, you will build a strong foundation for rhythm accuracy, expressive playing, and professional-level handpan performance
