Backing tracks for this session
We have now reached Exercise 29 from the Playpan collection. This piece is written in a 4/4 time signature, which means the rhythm is counted in four beats per measure. Pay close attention to both counting and finger placement, as accuracy in these elements is essential for achieving fluid and precise performance
One of the key aspects of this exercise is the execution of double notes on the first beats of each measure, as well as their cycle and arrangement throughout the piece. Mastering these rhythmic patterns will help strengthen your coordination, timing, and overall control of dynamics
This lesson also introduces two important techniques: the joint slap and the regular slap. Focus on learning the correct movement and hand position for each, as they are fundamental to creating crisp, expressive, and professional-sounding accents in your playing
To maximize your progress:
Begin with slow, mindful practice, repeating each section until it feels natural.
Gradually build consistency and confidence by repeating the patterns multiple times.
Once you are comfortable, perform the piece together with the backing track at its original tempo. This will help you internalize the groove, develop musical flow, and truly enjoy the process of performing.
By practicing this way, you will not only refine your slap techniques but also improve your ability to maintain steady rhythm in 4/4 meter, a foundational skill across all styles of music. Whether you are learning the handpan, percussion instruments, or melodic rhythm exercises, this training is designed to enhance your timing, coordination, and expressive performance skills
