Backing tracks for this session
We have now reached Exercise 30 from the Playpan collection. This piece is written in a 6/8 time signature, meaning the rhythm is counted in six beats per measure. Pay close attention to counting, hand placement, and finger positioning, as precision in these areas is essential for smooth and accurate performance
This piece provides an excellent opportunity to practice compound meter, helping you develop coordination, timing, and control over melodic and rhythmic patterns. Begin by practicing slowly, focusing on accuracy and consistency in each hand movement and note execution. Repeat the exercises several times until the patterns become natural and fluid
Once you feel confident, perform the piece along with the backing track at its original tempo. This will enhance your sense of rhythm, allow you to internalize the 6/8 groove, and make your practice more musical and enjoyable
Through this exercise, you will strengthen key handpan skills, including:
Mastery of 6/8 time signature and compound meter patterns
Improved finger placement and hand coordination
Smooth execution of melodic and rhythmic combinations
Enhanced awareness of timing, dynamics, and musical expression
By practicing in this structured, mindful way, you will not only refine your technical skills but also experience the full expressive potential of the handpan (hang drum) in both solo and ensemble contexts
