Lesson 116: Learning and Performing Piece No 28

Lesson description and learning notes

In this piece, repeated rhythmic patterns are combined with a clear melodic line that gradually develops and expands, creating an atmosphere full of excitement and an unpredictable emotional flow. The composition captures both structure and spontaneity, making it a powerful exercise for building control, creativity, and musical expression

This piece is written in compound time signatures, specifically designed to be practiced and counted in 6/8 rhythm. Such time signatures challenge the student to develop a deeper sense of timing, groove, and fluidity in performance

To get the most out of this exercise

  • Start by practicing slowly and deliberately, focusing on accuracy in rhythm and phrasing.

  • Repeat the patterns several times until they feel natural and comfortable.

  • Once confident, play the piece together with the backing track at its original tempo. This not only strengthens your timing but also brings the energy and unpredictability of the music to life.

Practicing with this method will help musicians enhance their rhythmic stability, melodic awareness, and improvisational freedom. Whether you are working on handpan, percussion, or melodic instruments, this exercise is a valuable tool for improving your musical timing, emotional expression, and performance confidence
